MVS Design, basé à Bolton (Ontario), fabrique depuis de nombreuses années des articles promotionnels, notamment des vestes, des casquettes et des chemises pour des équipes sportives, des entreprises et des syndicats.
Mark Pacilla, de la section locale 2323 de l’AIM, a récemment recruté les travailleurs de l’entreprise au sein du syndicat de l’AIM. « Les travailleurs et la direction de MVS sont ravis de collaborer avec l’AIM », a déclaré M. Pacilla. Ci-dessus, les membres exécutifs de la section locale 2323 de l’AIM, qui ont visité les locaux, ainsi que les nouveaux membres de la section locale 2323 de l’AIM.
MVS Design located in Bolton Ontario has been producing promotional items, including jackets, hats and shirts for sports teams, businesses and unions for many years.
Mark Pacilla, of IAM Local 2323, recently organized their workers into the IAM Union. “Both the workers and the management of MVS are excited to be working with the IAM”, said Pacilla.

Between 30-40 new IAM members attended their first meeting with their representatives and to ask questions. Almost immediately, they discovered the benefits of joining the IAM. The group of about 110 workers becomes part of IAM Local 2413.
From standardising shifts to health and safety concerns to favouritism, the new members asked many questions about their rights and how they could move forward in the upcoming bargaining with the employer. Due to being classified as workers in the federal sector, the new members discovered they were entitled to a host of rights they didn’t know they had.
Dan Janssen, General Chairperson for IAM District 140 and the new servicing representative chaired the meeting and fielded questions. “It is inspiring to see these workers come together with strength and solidarity in order to push back on their employer in an effort to demand decent working conditions and fair wages. The issues raised at tonight’s meeting are concerning and range from terrible working conditions to a complete lack of respect for these workers”.
Also present at the meeting were Kushang Shah, Shop Steward with IAM Local 2323 and Sam Jabbar, GLR with IAM Canada both played a major role in showing the workers the benefits of joining the IAM.
“They brought with them a wealth of questions and curiosity. But mostly were glad that they joined IAM and taking the first step towards a better future. With each passing moment, their faces lit up with hope and anticipation, knowing that their lives were about to change with significant improvement,” Shah said.
Officers and staff of IAM Local 2413, District 140 and the IAM Canadian Office were also on hand to welcome the members.
The new members work for Logixx Security providing security and monitoring services. They joined the IAM at the end of July 2024.

La section locale 2323 de l’AIM a organisé un autre barbecue annuel réussi pour ses membres et ses retraités. L’événement a eu lieu dans le stationnement des bureaux de la section locale 2323 de l’AIM, qui ont accueilli tous ceux qui s’y sont rassemblés tout au long de la journée. Près de 500 personnes y ont participé au cours de la journée.
De nombreux événements ont été organisés pour les membres et leurs familles, qui ont attiré tous les âges. Des hamburgers et hot-dogs, accompagnés de nombreux plats, à la peinture sur visage, en passant par les glaces et la bonne compagnie des membres qui se réunissent dans un environnement détendu et amusant. Il y a même eu une tombola avec deux télévisions à grand écran comme grands prix. La section locale a également mis en vente de nombreux articles portant la marque de la section locale 2323.
Le DJ qui a diverti la foule toute la journée avec une grande sélection de musique est également membre de la section locale 2323 de l’AIM. Ils sont restés sur les lieux !

« L’une des raisons pour lesquelles nous organisons ce barbecue est de rendre la pareille à nos membres. Nous avons également invité nos membres à venir en famille, ce qu’ils ont fait. Cela a fait de ce barbecue un événement familial très agréable. En tant que président de la loge locale, je suis fier de voir nos membres rire entre eux et s’amuser. Nous sommes une famille. Nous sommes une solide famille de l’AIM ». Vick Seebalak a également remercié les autres membres de l’Exécutif et tous les bénévoles qui ont contribué à faire de cet événement l’un des plus réussis de tous les temps.
Chris Glover, député de la circonscription de Spadina-Fort York, dans la région de Toronto, a également participé au barbecue à l’invitation de la section locale. Il a souligné l’importance de l’intelligence artificielle et ce qu’elle promet, ainsi que la nécessité d’être vigilant quant à la surveillance des travailleurs et travailleuses sur le lieu de travail.
Shan Wahab, membre de la section locale 2323 depuis 14 ans, a pris quelques minutes pour partager ses impressions sur le BBQ : « c’est un moment privilégié pour rencontrer les collègues et les retraités afin de ne pas perdre le contact avec eux »
Dans ses commentaires aux membres réunis pour l’événement, Dave Flowers, président général directeur du district 140 de l’AIM, a expliqué la différence entre le salaire minimum et le salaire vital, en particulier en ce qui concerne les travailleurs et travailleuses des aéroports. L’AIM a été très active dans ce dossier, particulièrement dans les aéroports de Toronto et de Vancouver, réussissant à intégrer des dispositions sur le salaire vital dans les nouveaux contrats. « Les employeurs font de l’argent main dans la main, mais nous ne voyons pas de retombées pour les travailleurs », a-t-il dit. Il a exhorté les députés à se serrer les coudes parce que « lorsque nous haussons le plancher, nous haussons le plafond »
Le chef du personnel de l’AIM au Canada, Ralph Martin, qui a également assisté au BBQ, a déclaré : « C’était merveilleux de voir autant de membres et de retraités sortir socialiser. Ces événements permettent vraiment aux membres et aux retraités de se reconnecter dans un environnement exempt des pressions du travail. Excellent événement organisé par la section locale 2323. Merci au comité qui a préparé le tout et merci à tous ceux qui ont pris le temps de participer. »

IAM Local Lodge 2323 pulled off yet another successful annual BBQ for their members and retirees. The event was held in the parking lot of IAM Local 2323 offices, which accommodated everyone who gathered there throughout the day. Almost 500 people attended over the course of the day.
There were many events for the members and their families which appealed to all ages. From burgers and hot dogs, accompanied by many sides, to face-painting, ice cream, and the great company afforded by members meeting in a relaxed and fun environment. There was even a raffle with 2 large-screen televisions as grand prizes. The local also offered many Local 2323-branded items for sale.
The DJ who entertained the crowd all day with a great selection of music is also a member of IAM Local 2323. They stayed local!

“One of the reasons we have this BBQ is to give back to our members. We also invited our members to bring their families, which they did. It made it a very enjoyable family event. As a local Lodge President, I feel proud watching our members laugh with each other and having a good time. We are a family. We are a solid IAM family.” Seebalak also thanked other members of the Executive and all the volunteers for helping make this one of the most successful ever.
Chris Glover, MPP for the Toronto-area riding of Spadina-Fort York, also attended the BBQ on invitation from the local. He stressed the importance of artificial intelligence and what it promised, as well as the need to be watchful about workers being surveilled in the workplace.
Shan Wahab, a 14-year LL2323 member, took a few minutes to share his thoughts on the BBQ, saying, “it’s a great time to meet with co-workers and retirees so we don’t lose touch with them.”
In his comments to the members gathered for the event, Dave Flowers, President and Directing General Chairperson of IAM District 140, explained the difference between minimum wage and a living wage, especially as it affects airport workers. The IAM has been very active on the issue particularly at the Toronto and Vancouver airports, succeeding on getting living wage provisions into newer contracts. “Employers are making money hand-over-fist, but we’re not seeing that trickle down to the workers,” he said. He urged members to stick together because “when we raise the floor, we raise the ceiling.”
IAM Canada’s Chief-of-Staff, Ralph Martin, who also attended the BBQ, said, “It was wonderful to see so many members and retirees out socializing. These events really allow members and retirees to reconnect in an environment that’s free from the pressures of work. Great event hosted by Local Lodge 2323, thank you to the committee that put this together and many thanks to all that took the time to participate.”
