And while our long-standing solidarity and strength have gotten us to this point, it has become clear in my\u00a0visits with you \u2013 our proud membership \u2013 that more needs to be done to move us toward a brighter future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Today, I am proud to announce that <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>we are taking significant steps toward ensuring the good and welfare of our District 140\u00a0membership<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Upon approval from the IAM Executive Council and in accordance with the IAM Constitution, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>we are placing District 140\u00a0under supervision<\/strong><\/span>. This is an internal process within our union that allows us to assist the District in serving our membership.\u00a0It <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>does not<\/strong><\/span> remove any officers, make any changes to district or local elections, or change any financial operations of the\u00a0district.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Our goals, which come directly from meetings with our membership, are the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Informing Our Membership<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Ensure communication is flowing at all levels of our organization and making it to the shop floor.\u00a0Our members have a right to transparent, consistent communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Mobilization for Bargaining<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We must be united as we head toward critical bargaining with Air Canada and other employers.\u00a0We will only succeed if we are together as one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Structural Improvements<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We heard from you that you feel the District structure is not serving the best interests of our membership.\u00a0We will examine our bargaining committees and District board structure to ensure our members are being heard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Real Representation<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We must ensure that every region and workgroup has a strong voice in our union.\u00a0This is a union that serves all members.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Top-to-Bottom Review<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We will review all District processes, including our bylaws, and make changes that put the members first.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">All of these actions are being taken with the good and welfare of you \u2013 the membership \u2013 at the forefront.
