About Us

Transportation District 140 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers consists of members who belong to eighteen (18) Local Lodges from coast-to-coast across Canada. Sometimes we are better known as either the "IAM" or "The Machinists' Union". We represent close to 16,000 working men and women in the transportation sector in Canada. We are the largest Union in the transportation industry in Canada

The District 140 of the IAMAW represents aircraft mechanics and technicians, airline ground handling and warehouse staff, catering, fuelling, security, clerical and financial services employees. We represent members in over forty (40) companies such as Aeroguard, Air Canada, Air Transat, Algoma Central Railway, British Airways, Cara Operations, Consolidated Aviation Fuelling, Penauille/Servisair, MTU Maintenance Canada, United Airlines and Worldwide Flight Services.

Our goal is to ensure that the hard working men and women in the transportation industry are treated in a fair manner. Changes in our industry happen quickly and continuously. Privatization of airports, mergers of companies, and global alliances of the largest  transportation companies in the world drive the need for worker protection.

The best protection and service to the workers in our industry is achieved under coordinated efforts from the transportation community as a whole; not by pitting workers from various companies against each other. United we bargain, divided we beg.
