Toronto, ON – The recent announcement by Air Canada/AVEOS of the layoff of more than one thousand aircraft maintenance mechanics is the latest indication that Canada is in danger of losing its place in this growing global industry.

In consultation and with the cooperation of the Grand Lodge, the decision was made to hold Town Hall meetings with our members so that we may better educate ourselves and the membership as to the issues as they see them.

As you all know from the various bulletins and correspondence that have been posted in the work areas regarding the upcoming layoffs and the mitigation programs that have been discussed, District 140 now needs to advise our membership of the positions that we have taken and the statements that we have made to both Air Canada and Aveos during some of those meetings.

On February 23 & 24, 2010 Transportation District 140 representatives along with the Technical Operations Shop Committee Chairs reconvened mitigation meetings with Senior Management from Air Canada and Aveos.

On February 18, 2010 Transportation District 140 representatives along with the Technical Operations Shop Committee Chairs met with Government Representatives from Service Canada and Senior Management from Air Canada and Aveos.
